The group will look at the history and origin of ingredients and try out new or unusual foods and methods of preparation. It will taste and explore what local Foodie Professionals, chefs or producers, are doing. Meetings are likely to be held mostly at the Organiser’s home with occasional visits to various food-related venues.
In its first meeting the group had a discussion about the history and evolution of spices from the Silk Road origins to their spread around the western world. Spice blends in common use were considered and we tasted German and Dutch cookies typical of Northern European spice blends. The outline of a programme for the next 8 months was put together to include specialist cafe visits and making cream cheese.
