We meet on the first Tuesday afternoon of each month, from 2 pm at the organiser’s home in Exmouth.
Some of the colourful, warm jumpers knitted by members of our knitting group for Syrian refugees living in difficult circumstances in Jordan. I am always overwhelmed by how generous our knitters are, and the time and care they take with these exquisite hand-knitted items.
Knitted with love!
Knitted for Remembrance
Members of our knitting group have been busily making poppies for the Remembrance displays which will be featured all around our lovely town for 11 November. Please see photograph.
Knitted with love from Exmouth
Members of the Exmouth and District U3A Knitting Group - pictured L to R Ailsa, Margaret, Jan and Mary - handing over children's jumpers and beanie hats to Judy Ring (pictured centre) who is travelling with a local convoy of much-needed supplies for Iraqi refugees in Madaba, Jordan. These Christian Iraqis, mainly from the towns of Mosul and Qaraqosh, had to leave at very short notice - a matter of minutes, after Daesh (ISIS) overran their towns. They were told to leave - immediately, convert or be killed, with just what they could put together in 10 mins. They were generously given shelter by Christian Jordanian familes, many of whom are struggling themselves,
Despite its Middle Eastern location, the winters, whilst short, are very cold, especially at night. The jumpers and hats knitted by the Exmouth and District U3A Knitting Group are for the Iraqi refugee children as they are very short of suitable warm clothing.
Previously, the group has knitted ‘Twiddlemuffs' and these also proved very popular and were much in evidence on this visit
Currently, our knitting group is full.
