The group meets monthly, usually on the afternoon of the second Wednesday.
The aim of the group continues to be an expansion of awareness, knowledge and enjoyment of music. It’s focus is largely, but not exclusively, on classical music. On alternate months, the format of meetings involves listening to, and discussing, a concert chosen and presented by a member of the group. For most of the other meetings, the format relates to the progressive development of western music starting from the beginning of the Baroque period. In these sessions, the group considers a range of pieces chosen to explore some of the characteristic features of the period. Thus far, the group has taken forward this chronology into the early years of the Romantic period. For 2019, the group expects its main focus to be on the work of Schubert and some of his contemporaries during the second and third decades of the 19th century. In addition, the group intends to retain its now customary tradition of a medley session for the final meeting of the year. The group also keeps under review local concerts and performances of possible interest to members.
The group has a stable core membership and currently has no vacancies.
