Exe Valley

Welcome

Retired from full-time employment? Looking to stretch your mind through learning? Want to extend your social life? Living in the Tiverton or Mid-Devon area? Then join Exe Valley U3A!

U3As are self-help, self-managed co-operatives for people who have stopped full-time work or family-raising, providing opportunities for their members to share learning experiences in a wide range of interest groups and to pursue learning not for qualifications, but simply for enjoyment. They also provide an excellent social medium for people new to the area, as well as for more established residents. Fun and enjoyment are at least as important as learning, and in U3A they often go together. Current annual membership rates are £10 for single, £20 for a couple.

Exe Valley U3A has a membership of around 230 who are typically aged 55-plus. We operate through a network of semi-autonomous interest groups covering subjects and activities from Boules to Bridge, from Local History to Lunching. There are 20-30 such groups to choose from, and members can attend as few or as many as they wish (and have the time for!) Each group decides when and where and how often to meet. They range in size from 10 members up to 40 or 50, depending on the subject. Most meet monthly, but some meet twice or more each month. Please click on "Groups" for more information.

We also have a members' Monthly Meeting on the third Wednesday of every month at the Cherith Hall, Blundells Road, Tiverton to which all of our members are invited. At these plenary sessions we usually have a guest speaker followed by a cuppa and chat. Please feel free to join us. Doors open at 1.30 and we start at 2.00 prompt (so please be there early) and finish by 4.00. There is a small charge, usually £2 per head, to cover meeting and speaker expenses.

Our Monthly Newsletter is also on this website: please have a look through this for up-to-date information on our Interest Groups and other actiivities.

The many u3as around the United Kingdom are members of the Third Age Trust which is a registered charity. There are now nearly 320,000 u3a members in the UK. Please use link on the sidebar to connect to the u3a National Office site for a fuller description of how u3as work.
