Reading Group 2
We set up a second reading group because our existing one was full. We could not increase the numbers of participants in the first group because the Library Service provides books to reading groups in sets of 10.This of course limits the numbers. In our second reading group, we have three members who like to use eReaders, and some fast readers who pass on a quickly-read book to another member, which has extended our capacity to 14. However, numbers are also limited by space for everyone to gather, so we too are full.
The Library gave us a 14 page list of book titles/authors from which to choose 24. We did this collectively at our first meeting. Out of those 24, the library provides us with 12 sets of books over the course of a year. They will sometimes provide a “wild card” but so far all our books have been from our list of choices. We meet from 2.00pm - 4.00pm on the 1st Monday in the month, at the Group Leader's house in Tiverton.
The books we have read have certainly met one of our aims – to extend our reading experience into genres and authors we would not normally have chosen. We have read works by Vita Sackville-West, Michael Morpurgo, Sarah Challis, Will Self, Helene Hannff, Sinclair McKay and Sylvia Plath.
If you have any questions, or would like to go on the waiting list for a place in the group, please call Chris Redhead, Group Leader on 01884 252223, or send her an e-mail by clicking on the icon to the right.
