Group Convenor - James Semple
Meets: 1st Wednesday of the month from 2.15pm in the Priory Room at the Mint Church on Fore Street.
The Science Group aims to range widely over all areas of pure and applied Science at a level which does not exclude interested laypersons while engaging the participation of professionals. Within these guidelines members are encouraged to research and present any topic.
As a new Group we are still working up a number of areas. At our first meeting in November, interest was established in Sustainability Decision Theory (which was discussed at our second meeting in December) as well as a range of topics in physics, such as quantum mechanics, relativity and cosmology. Members are also working on the Human Microbiome, the Physics of Birdflight and selected topics in the history of science.
There will be no meeting in January 2019, owing to near-overlap with New Year's Day. The third meeting will be on Wednesday 6th February 2019 when we will complete the discussion carried over from the previous meeting and begin on an Introduction to Quantum Mechanics. Notes are available as .pdf files by email from the Convenor.
