Group Convenor: Helen Cleasby
Benvenuti nella pagina web del gruppo italiano U3A!
We meet on 2nd, 4th and 5th Wednesday afternoons at convenor’s home in Central Exeter.
We currently have space for one more member. For more information, email convenor Helen Cleasby (contact details in the newsletter).
Our small group was set up in April 2016 with the aim of acquiring a good understanding of Italian and the ability to communicate confidently with native Italian speakers.
We are now approaching Intermediate level. We started a new book (Italian GCSE) last September which should see us through 2019, to achieve Intermediate (GCSE) level (without sitting the exams, of course!). At that stage we intend to become an Italian conversation group, although probably "stumbling" conversation at first!
Our Wednesday afternoon meetings usually kick off with simple prepared conversation, followed by a review of the next section in our GCSE book. We also leave time to enjoy selected short stories or texts to help with speaking and comprehension. We plan our lessons in advance to enable us to be well prepared, so there is some work to be done at home in between meetings.
A language teacher based in northern Italy made contact with us last year, and some of us are now connected with Italian students of English.
We've also ventured to an Italian Coffee Morning organised by Exeter's Italian Cultural Association, and to Italian films at the Phoenix.
If you'd like to learn Italian but can't find a group to suit you, contact the Committee or Groups Coordinators (https://u3asites.org.uk/exeter/contact), who will help set up a new group.
