Group leader: Mike Gillan
Meets: 2pm - 4pm on fourth Thursday of every month in the Wesley Room, The Mint from September 2018
The Photography Group aims to cater for people at all levels of experience and expertise, using widely different cameras from smart phone, through point-and-shoot, to mirrorless and SLR. We want to be a source of encouragement in your own learning journey about your cameras, photography technique, composition and the editing and processing skills that can transform your photos - and we will try and provide several different ways this can be done.
Photography is about much more than the technical, and we plan to spend some of our time hearing about and discussing topics such as famous photographers of the past, photo-journalism and various artistic approaches involving photography, as well as sharing images from the web and other media that have inspired us individually, whilst trying to analyse how photographers achieve great images. Members of other U3A groups, which are sometimes dependent on photography, (e.g. Travel, Bird Watching and History on the Move etc) will be welcome to join us for appropriate sessions.
Sharing and discussing our own photos is an important activity of the Group. To give structure to this, we will often choose photographic themes for voluntary assignments, some of which may help us to learn about things like composition, depth of field, and lighting, among others, to improve our shooting skills.
We urge everyone interested in improving their photography and in viewing and discussing photographic images of all kinds to come along and try us out and see if the Photography Group can stimulate your interest. If you plan to come, please send an email to Mike Gillan, the Convenor (see Newsletter for contact details).
