Current Groups

Our current groups are listed at the bottom of this page, please click on one for more detail.

We also have access to U3A central resources which opens up huge possibilities for new groups – just a few suggestions from their list – Art, Gardening, Family History, Health and Exercise, Languages, Foreign Films, Music, Science, Walking.

Would you like to set up a group that doesn't yet exist?

You don't have to be an expert or have any formal qualifications to set up a group. All you need is enthusiasm and willingness to take the initiative. Our Groups Coordinator will give you all the support and help you need to get your group off the ground.

Step 1
If you have an idea of an interest group you would like to set up then have a chat with one of the two Group Secretaries, or email them, they can talk you through how to proceed in accordance with 'Helpful Hints' on this page.
Before the next monthly General Meeting the Group Secretary will advertise the new proposed Group via the Newsletter or email circulation.

Step 2
At the next General Meeting the Group Secretary will announce the new proposed Group and ask interested members to get together during social time when names and contact details can be collected. At this stage a first informal planning meeting should be arranged at a convenient date, time and venue for interested parties to discuss how they would like the proposed new Group to progress. See 'Helpful Hints'. Getting someone to host this first meeting is sometimes the hardest part - be reassured hosting a meeting does not mean you have to 'lead' the Group. In U3A the emphasis is on everyone getting involved! Once these contact details have been collected and first meeting arranged, then details will be circulated to the whole membership by the Group Secretary, but note that no personal address will be given - just a phone number or email contact. The Group Secretary will pass on any enquires made directly through the website to the person who is hosting the first session and answer any questions that may arise. For example the new Group might want to access the U3A Resource Collection. The Group Secretary will continue to monitor and advertise the new Group on the website and at monthly meetings.

So lots of potential activity!

Come to one of the monthly meetings (see Events) if you are interested in any of these groups or have suggestions of your own – or contact the Group Secretary.

See the link on the right hand side of this page for more help in starting a new group (this link will download a .docx Word document which you will then need to open)
