Family Tree Web Sites

There are many web sites which allow you to create and publish a family tree online, either for free or with a subscription charge.

Free sites

FamilySearch is a free web site run by The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints which allows you to search billions of records and also build a family tree. Many records are only available as transcriptions so access to one of the paid web sites might be needed to obtain an original image of the record. FamilySearch also has many guides and resources to help with family tree research. Note: The FamilySearch family tree is a public tree which any member of FamilySearch can update.

WikiTree is a free family tree web site where an online community of volunteer genealogists are working to create a single global accurate family tree which is backed up by sources. WikiTree is based on the same technology as Wikipedia. WikiTree does not include any source records.
