The Latin group consists of beginners and people with rusty school Latin. We use the Minimus series. Minimus is a mouse with a strong sense of grammar who guides us through. The book is aimed at children, which means it has a realistic view of how much help people need to learn. We also spend time talking about English words that are derived from Latin, such as 'science' from Latin for 'scio' meaning 'I know'. We're also learning about the Roman way of life and Roman history, and plan to visit Roman sites.
We are now in touch with Alcester Musuem, who gave us a very good tour of the museum and Alcester High Street, and some of us our going on their trip to Chedworth and Cirencester, and to Chester on the Evesham U3A trip. We plan to visit other places with Roman history, and some are close, like Worcester and Gloucester.
This group is still in its infancy, but is so popular it's now full, but I don't want anyone to miss out. If there are enought interested people I will try to start a second group, so please get in touch, preferably via the pigeon on this page or clicking on my name, or phone me.
