Science, and Technology
The inaugral meeting for Science, Engineering and Technology was on Jan 29th 2016. We now plan to meet on the fourth Friday morning of each month, to discuss a great breadth of topics.
The Science and Engineering Group had a very good day out at the Oxford University Museum of Natural History in March. This place is a wonderland for anyone interested in Zoology or Geology especially and the displays are wonderful. It is also a location of some of the great discoveries in science and where Darwin's theory of Evolution came to be known. In April there was a discussion meeting on the subject of water. Again we had a good meeting on the last Friday of the month at Wallace House; this time a discussion subject was the topic and we considered some aspects of that mysterious chemical, WATER.
A very wide topic but we did manage some aspects of its physics, types of beer, why ice floats, its once possible use as a Russian weapon, how hydraulic cements work and not least some of the problems affecting our personal experiences of water in the body.
At the time of writing, the May meeting is yet to come. We hope to be considering some of the problems of machinery and its dangers!
