ASSOCIATION QUIZ

This year's Quiz was held on Thursday June 6th at the United Reform Church, Chelmsford. The event attracted teams from 14 U3As across Essex. Before the Quiz began refreshments were available for everyone. The General Knowledge questions were drawn from a wide range of subjects and the competition amongst the teams was intense. At the end of the event the scores on the scoreboard indicated that it was a closely contested Quiz with just 6 points between the first three places.

The Quiz consisted of 8 rounds of 10 questions per round. The subjects were Music, History & Geography, Identify the objects, Entertainment, Science and Nature, Cryptic Cities, General Knowledge plus a PIcture round (Guess the celebrities).

Our thanks go to Ken and Maureen for all their work in researching, setting the questions & doing the audio recordings - also for providing the microphones & speakers. Thanks too to Ken who was Quizmaster and Maureen who recorded the scores on the large board. All the answer papers were marked by Joe and Pat Nutton, members of Chelmsford U3A. And finally thanks to those members of Waltham Abbey U3A who set out the tables and chairs before the Quiz began and cleared them away at the end.

The scores for each of the tables were:
Table 1 - Maldon & District 172pts; Table 2 - Basildon & Billericay 150pts; Table 3 - Leigh on Sea 143pts;Table 4 - Stanford le Hope 174pts;
Table 5 - Roding Valley 150pts; Table 6 - Barking & Dagenham 141pts; Table 7 - Braintree Area 164pts; Table 8 - Waltham Abbey 178pts;
Table 9 - The Rodings 145pts; Table 10 - Chelmsford 139pts; Table 11 - Stanway 160pts; Table 12 - Hawkwell Village 162pts;
Table 13 - Thorpe Bay 169pts; Table 14 - Dengie 139pts

The final results were: 3rd place - Maldon and District; 2nd place - Stanford-le-Hope; 1st place - Waltham Abbey

The Winners, Waltham Abbey, were presented with their Trophy by the Chair of the Essex Association, Sandra Randall. This is the third successive year that they have won the title. You can see a photograph of the Winning Team on the top right.
