Current Affairs Group 1
Members discuss stories from contemporary news sharing views and perspectives on current events and issues. Each member is invited to bring along two or three stories that caught their attention and lead off the discussion in each case. Discussions tend to be varied and lively. We follow a debating etiquette which invites varied viewpoints and with everyone agreeing to respect the opinions of others even though they may, sometimes, be quite different from their own.
The Group Convenor is Professor Barrie Gunter who has worked in the broadcasting sector and was a media and journalism scholar in the university sector for over 20 years.
These monthly meetings are held in Loughton. Meetings will take place over two hours starting at 10am, usually on the third Thursday of each month. Members receive a annual schedule of meetings at the beginning of each year.
Current Affairs Group 2
A new Current Affairs discussion group has been launched in response to a demand from members. It will be led by Paul Wilson. This group will follow a similar format to the first group. It will meet at the Group Convenor's home in Loughton on the second Tuesday of each month.
