EXPLORING MODERN SPIRITUALITY
Exploring Modern Spirituality 10:30 to 12:30 third Friday monthly. Discussing "Life The Multiverse and Everything". The group meets monthly, in Hersham.
The group meets at Walton Library, sharing the cost of hiring the smaller room there. We start around 10.45am, finishing some time after 12 pm. We have a break in August, and the December meeting s flexible depending on the proximity of the third Friday to Christmas.
At the end of 2018, there were five of us permanently in the group but the room will comfortably accommodate more people. The room is quiet and private.
We started in January 2016 as a discussion group out of the wish to meet and hear other people with a similar interest in what is now often called 'spirituality' rather than conventional philosophy or religion. Although I always cite the books of Eckhart Tolle and Neale Donald Walsch as being relevant, we are not a study group as such - we learn from each other's experience and from listening to other viewpoints.
A specific topic is chosen in advance for each meeting. After introducing the topic, I now usually open it to general discussion, but if the numbers in the group are high, then we have to have greater formality over ensuring everybody has a chance to speak, and how long for. We aim to begin and end the discussion with a minute's silence and have an agreement that anything said remains confidential to the group.
Over the last few years we have discussed, among other things, The Purpose of Life, Loving Ourselves, Spiritual Healing, Angelic Entities, Reincarnation and Karma, Meditation, and Spiritual Evolution. Sometimes we look at a quotation from a well-known writer, sometimes we repeat a topic, as everything is inter-connected and the same themes recur in different fields of discussion.
