Russian Walton Library. Some basic knowledge would be helpful. Alternate Thursdays 10:30 to 12.30.
The group shares the cost of hiring the small room at the Library. We usually have a break in August and at Christmas.
At December 2018, there were seven in the group, all of whom attend regularly.
The group started at the end of 2015 when a sufficient number of people had shown interest in forming a beginners' group. The Leader offered to 'facilitate' the group rather than teach it formally, as although she had studied Russian at University, it was a long time ago.
The group uses self-teaching course books and CDs, specifically "BBC Russian Language and People", which incorporates some information about history and literature, and now also "The New Penguin Russian Course".
Sometimes we watch YouTube videos and cartoons in Russian as there is wifi at the Library.
The group is constantly revising and practising what has been learnt. Although its members were originally 'beginners', they have made progress and some knowledge of the Russian alphabet and basic vocabulary and grammar would be needed by anyone wishing to join the group at this stage.
