LOOKING AT WEATHER
LOOKING AT WEATHER, Esher. 10.30-12.00 alternate Thursdays. Investigating the basic facts about the world’s weather, trying to sort out normal patterns and weather phenomena.
The group started 6 years ago as a follow-up to one led by Ingrid Holford - an enthusiastic Met. Office broadcaster and author. We meet fortnightly in the Leader's home.
Weather can be defined as the means by which the overall balance of heat is maintained throughout the Earth's atmosphere. So we have studied the science involved in local and worldwide patterns leading to usual and unusual phenomena eg. sun, clouds, rainfall, heat waves, wind, jet stream, drought, floods, lightning, tropical storms, hurricanes, vegetation, famine etc.
We don't attempt weather forecasting leaving that to the experts but we have very interesting discussions about the current situations around the world.
Unfortunately it is not possible to expand the group at present.
