Climate Emergency & Wider Issues -- L, T, WA, S20 - see Accessibility Key for Group Venues.
Morris Bradley has requested a minor name change to this group, previously called “Climate Emergency – Wider Issues”, as he believes it more correctly describes the group’s interests.
Leader: Dr Morris Bradley - see Group Leaders Contact Details.
Timing: 2pm on the 4th Tuesday OR at 2pm on the following day (Wednesday).
Location: Morningside Library, Charles Smith Room.
Buses: 5, 11, 15, 23, 36.
Note: Communication is currently by video conference via Zoom.

MEETINGS: This Group is for anyone who Cares about how human activity has caused this climate emergency, with global over-heating already causing extreme weather catastrophes. Or anyone who Cares about how human activity is damaging the natural world’s ecosystems, on which our lives depend. Both are GLOBAL CRISES and can only be stopped by Global Cooperation.
The AIMS of our Climate Emergency and Wider Issues Group, are to gain an understanding of these global crises, why they are getting rapidly worse, yet nothing has been done that would reduce the main causes. So we are in a struggle of ideas and everything depends on people who care like us, speaking out. Of course, people have heard about climate change and think electric cars etc will let them keep the same lifestyles but the evidence is that this is a dangerous delusion because it has had no impact on the root causes. Reduce your carbon footprint, as I have done for decades, because that shows what is possible, but we have to face the fact that this has no impact on those who are causing the global crises. In our Group, we identify what has to be done, helping us to spread those insights and build enlightened opinion.
EACH MONTH we have a choice of two identical main zoom meetings at 2pm on the 4th Tuesday OR at 2pm on the following day (Wednesday). This allows people to join who may not be able to attend without this flexibility. Each month all members get zoom INVITE emails to both meetings and can simply turn up to either meeting without making any arrangements. We take a break around 3pm and usually people want to continue but we always stop before 4pm.
FOR NEW MEMBERS we offer Extra welcome one-hour meetings arranged in the second week of each month to help you to understand what our group is doing.
Where does our knowledge and expertise come from? We attract people with very varied backgrounds and experience, who make our discussions so lively and informative. As Group leader, I am not a professional climate scientist but I have studied the scientific evidence for nearly thirty years while lecturing at universities on related issues and in retirement. I am a qualified teacher with decades of experience and have a life-time concern with education.
