Covid-19 and our u3a
East Renfrewshire is in Level 4 Restrictions from 20 November. This means there can be no indoor meetings; 2 households can meet outdoors with a maximum of 6 people and by law from 20 November, there can be no non-essential travel into or out of East Renfrewshire. The committee decided on 9 November that our outdoor groups can meet under level 3 and 4 restrictions, but the meetings must take place in East Renfrewshire and there will no cafe visits.
Since March our u3a activities have been severely limited by the Covid-19 outbreak and for several months none of our groups could meet.
However during this time the committee has continued to meet monthly via Zoom and we have bought annual Zoom licences so that we can hold meetings for longer than the free 40 minutes. The committee has also worked hard to develop their Zoom skills so that we can now hold Zoom monthly meetings, which started in July. Information about joining these is sent out to members by email. We held our AGM on Zoom on 19 August and elected the new committee for 2020/2021.
Several groups are also using Zoom to stay in contact with their members and to hold meetings. Other groups are having quizzes or keeping in contact via email - please check with the group facilitator using the Message Bird on the group's page - see the 'Groups' tab - to find out what they are doing. We have also started some new online groups: Nature Watch, Sing with John, Cuppa@11, Club 7:30, Wine Buddies and Eyes Down! Some of these are our first evening groups - see the relevant pages on the 'Groups' tab. More are in the 'pipeline' so keep an eye out for any 'New Groups' emails.
The committee have produced new risk assessments for both the venues and the group meetings and these forms are now ready for use as soon as we can start meeting indoors again and the outdoors groups are using them for their meetings.
We ask that all our members complete our Covid-19 Personal Risk Assessment Form before they attend any meetings.
Jim Hamilton has continued to produce our monthly newsletter 'Chit-Chat' and this is sent out to members each month with an update message from Douglas Yates - our chairperson.
If you have any questions or require any further information please contact Rosalind Holmes (Groups Coordinator) via the Message Bird on the 'Contacts' tab.
