Covid-19 and our u3a
A Government Update 16 March 2021 outlines the current regulations and the possible route out of lockdown with proposed dates on which changes may occur. An update on 16 April 2021 allows people to meet outdoors in groups of six from six households with appropriate social distancing. Also members can travel anywhere in Scotland. It is intended that from 26 April Level 3 Restrictions will apply - these will be updated before that date - the current details are shown in the link.
As we move into May and June and restrictions are further eased, we will update the advice to the group facilitators as the regulations permit their groups to meet.
Since March 2020 our u3a activities have been severely limited by the Covid-19 outbreak, but we have developed virtual meetings.
The committee has continued to meet monthly via Zoom and we have bought several annual Zoom licences so that we can hold meetings for longer than the free 40 minutes. The committee have also worked hard to develop their Zoom skills so that we can now hold Zoom monthly meetings, which started in July. Information about joining these is sent out to members by email. We held our AGM on Zoom on 19 August and elected the new committee for 2020/2021.
Several groups are also using Zoom to stay in contact with their members and to hold meetings. Other groups are having quizzes or keeping in contact via email - please check with the group facilitator using the Message Bird on the group's page - see the 'Groups' tab - to find out what they are doing. We have also started some new online groups: Nature Watch, Sing with John, Cuppa@11, Club 7:30, Wine Buddies and Eyes Down! Some of these are our first evening groups - see the relevant pages on the 'Groups' tab.
Click Active Groups for a list of the groups which are holding some sort of meetings.
The committee have produced new risk assessments for both the venues and the group meetings and these forms are now ready for use as soon as we can start meeting indoors again and the outdoors groups are using them if they can have meetings.
We ask that all our members complete our Covid-19 Personal Risk Assessment Form before they attend any meetings.
Jim Hamilton has continued to produce our monthly newsletter 'Chit-Chat' and this is sent out to members each month with an update message from Douglas Yates - our chairperson.
If you have any questions or require any further information please contact Rosalind Holmes (Groups Coordinator) via the Message Bird on the 'Contacts' tab.
