The King and I

Thursday 15th June 2 pm (matinee performance)

The Mayflower Theatre Southampton.

We had tickets to see this 2 years ago, but it was cancelled due to Covid!

I have reserved some seats in the stalls for this production of the King & I on Thursday June 15th.

This is the multi award-winning Broadway production of Rodgers and Hammerstein’s The King and I on its return to the UK, following its critically acclaimed sold out season at The London Palladium.

The greatest musical from the golden age of musicals – with one of the finest scores ever written including Whistle a Happy Tune and Shall We Dance – features a company of over 50 world-class performers and a full-scale orchestra.

A celebration of the lavish heritage and the very best in romantic musical theatre from an unparalleled multi award-winning creative team.

Tickets are listed at £59.50 but if more than 10 of us want to go we can get a discount of £5 per seat. As usual for local theatre trips, I won’t be arranging any transport but if people are driving and can offer a lift to others, that would be great.

I will need a deposit of £30 to secure a place. The balance to be paid by the end of March. Please let me know if you would like to reserve a ticket.

The Battle Proms at Highclere Castle

Saturday 29th July 2023 – price £44.50 with a possible further discount based on numbers attending.

I’m starting to take bookings for the above event, which is a summer picnic and concert in the grounds of Highclere Castle (aka Downton Abbey). The gates open at 4 pm and it’s either bring your own picnic and chair, or you can pre-order/book tables and chairs or food hampers at the venue. The concert ends at approx. 10 pm. I can forward more details about what is available to order if you would like to see them.

This is an ‘all weather’ event so if it rains it will still go ahead (so it could also be bring your own umbrella!)

The outline for the event is:

A summer celebration with music, Spitfire, cannons, cavalry and fireworks!

A spectacular highlight of the Hampshire summer calendar, The Battle Proms returns for its 22nd annual concert overlooking the iconic architecture of Highclere Castle, loved world-wide as ‘the Real Downton Abbey’.

Expect toe tapping vintage vocals, dramatic cavalry and parachute displays, a meticulously choreographed Spitfire aerial display and a 2-hour orchestral performance of uplifting classical favourites, all culminating in a flag-waving, sing-a-long finale with breathtaking fireworks.

We will be organizing a coach to take us there, but coach parking is very limited at the venue so I need to know quite quickly how many people will be interested in coming, so that we can reserve a space in the coach park.

I’m told by people who have been before that the car park is some distance from the concert area so if you have mobility issues this may not be the event for you.

Please can you let me know if you would like to reserve a place as soon as possible.
