Playford Country Dancing
Group Leader - Colin Broome
Meetings - Wednesdays at 13:45 p.m. Venue - Old Town Community Centre, 1a Central Avenue.
These are the dances of the middle classes and nobility from before the middle of the 16th Century right up to the Victorian times when they largely dropped out of fashion when the new craze for the Waltz and other ‘more contact’ dances came into vogue. We are exploring the more easy ones with original tunes from the time of the dances played by present day musicians such as the ‘Pemberely Players’. If you have seen any of the dancing in the TV series of ‘Pride and Prejudice’ or the film ‘Emma’ you will have an idea of the kind of dances we are trying. No experience or prior knowledge needed as we walk through the dance beforehand. These dances tend to be more sedate than those of the Barn and Folk dancing. New dancers are very welcome. We meet the 1st and 2nd Wednesday in the month 13:45pm at the Old Town Community Centre, Central Avenue. Bus 1 and 1A stops almost outside. There is a small charge to cover the cost of Hall hire and refreshments. Contact Colin Broome
