Each year we hold three or four meetings at the Meridian Hall where we invite all members to come along and hear a professional speaker.

AGM talk - Wednesday 20th November
The Heritage of Gilbert and Sullivan
Bernard Lockett is a long term G & S enthusiast and as an author two of his books are about G&S.
Since 2007, he has been a Trustee of the International Gilbert & Sullivan Festival and the Festival’s National Gilbert & Sullivan Opera Company.
His combined talk will firstly look at the historical background of G&S and then an assessment and overview of the shows and to follow with a consideration and reason for the vast amount of social and political comment within the works and a wry look as to how much of what was said is just as relevant to the present day – “Dull MP’s for example!! Finally to take into consideration the worldwide popularity of G&S in the 21st century and to review modern production values.
