Painting for fun
Painting for Fun
Please note as from the 22nd September 2019 Valerie Osbon will be taking over the Painting for Fun Group.
Welcome to the Painting for Fun group. As the title implies, we are a very friendly Painting for Fun group of mixed abilities ranging from beginners to those with several years of experience. If you have never painted or it has been some time since you picked up a paint brush don’t be put off you will be most welcome. Please feel free to come along to one of our sessions and see what we do and meet the group. We tend to use watercolour, although other mediums are used*.
We normally suggest subjects for each meeting, these are intended to add variety, interest, and to help to learn, or improve on existing skills. However, some members occasionally prefer to “do their own thing”. The emphasis is on enjoyment and therefore suggested subjects are often influenced by the group members. Subjects can vary depending on particular preferences and with seasonal changes. Members are also encouraged to bring related subject matter, although examples are sometimes provided.
Owing to the diversity of expertise and experience within the group we tend to share our abilities, however, basic tuition and advice will be given to beginners and those with minimal experience. Unfortunately art materials are not provided, but if you are in doubt about what materials you may need, please ask.
We meet fortnightly on a Monday, on the first and third week of the month. The two hour sessions from 13:00 to 15:00 hrs are held in the Rose Room, Forest Row Community Centre. This is ideally suited for the art class as the room receives natural daylight through the north-east facing windows, it also has a large work sink. Tables and chairs are provided. Owing to the size of the room and wanting to keep the group to a comfortable and manageable size, the number of members are limited to twenty.
There are no fees for joining the Painting for Fun group, but you must be a member of the U3A. However, we have to recoup the cost of hiring the room therefore at present group members pay a nominal sum of £2 each towards the hire cost when they attend, as a group member you will also be expected to pay the £2 should you miss a session.
There is free parking within the community centre grounds and facilities are provided for disabled access. There is also a vending machine for hot drinks.
We are looking to expand the group, so if you are a beginner or experienced artist, or somewhere in-between, who would like to join the group, or would like further information please do not hesitate to contact the group leader by selecting the e-mail icon on the top right of this page.
Below are some examples of the artwork the group has produced, some of these were exhibited at the recent U3A SUN Sussex, Myths & Legends Exhibition which took place a Sussex University on the 13th July.
- For health & safety reasons and consideration to group members there are some art material which will not be permitted.
