Day Walking Group
Leader/Coordinator | Tim C |
Aims & Objective
To enjoy, regardless of the season, long country walks in the company of like minded people and, in so doing, discover and appreciate local landscapes and sustain/improve personal fitness.
Any attributes needed
An ability to read OS maps is an advantage but not absolutely essential. A willingness to identify, plan and lead walks is needed. Country walks take, typically, 5-6 hours (including stops) to complete and by their nature can be quite strenuous – a commensurate level of fitness is needed.
Equipment needed.
Walkers need to be suitably equipped to deal with the varying year round conditions e.g. good walking boots, appropriate clothing etc (according to season). Food and fluids for the day are carried and consumed en route. A personal basic first aid kit and compact thermal foil blanket is recommended.
Maximum number permitted in the group: 8
Location, day and time of meetings.
Walk locations vary but for the most part are local and “circular” with a start/end point within an approximate ½ - ¾ hour car journey from Dunstable. They are planned for the second Tuesday of each month with the outward journey starting at approximately 9.30am. Car sharing is arranged on an ad hoc basis.
