A Really Friendly Group For Folk Wishing To Trace Their Ancestors, Build Their Family Trees And Enjoy Outings For Research Purposes.
Family History fascinates and intrigues the spirit. Genealogy captures and carries you forward on a journey into the past that is both addictive and all consuming. So beware if you sign up know this, it is for life. Strange then that it should deal, for the most part, with death. As aforementioned, we meet twice a month on the 1st and 3rd Friday afternoons and take tenuous steps along the paths of kinship that lead anywhere and everywhere. We cover eons and collect names both familiar and unfamiliar to us.
Unknown DNA detectives, we plot and contrive to place flesh upon the bones, link husbands and wives, fathers and sons and weave our own stories into the rich tapestry of ages long gone that stretches before and aft across the web and weft of generations. It's said that the past is history, the future mystery, I disagree, there are more mysteries to unravel about our forebears than there are solutions to these conundrums.
We are a happy band of investigators, enjoying each other's company, swapping facts we find and anecdotes we have accessed. Our field trips are of especial delight. We venture forth into the uncharted seas of Sasines, kindle interests in Kirk sessions, visit valuation rolls and research regular and irregular marriages, births and deaths and that still leaves so much more, too much to mention, to keep us searching. The records take us far and wide, to Edinburgh, Glasgow, Kilmarnock and who knows what distant horizons may beckon us onwards to follow in the footsteps of our illustrious, or more usually not so eminent, predecessors.
If you buy a ticket to ride, our theory of relativity is an exciting, very often frustrating, journey through space and time, one travelled without a map or even Sat Nav. It is one embarked upon without any hope of ever reaching a destination.
