Book Group 1
The Book Group is now more than 5 years old with 9 members meeting monthly at my home. We meet on the 3rd Tuesday of the month at 2.30 and discuss the book of the month, giving our opinions and finally a score out of 10 for enjoyment. I ask for volunteers to find out a little about the author and lead the discussion which is helped along with tea, coffee, biscuits and sometimes cake.
We are constantly surprised at our differing opinions. I was amazed that one of the best books I have ever read - “Enduring Love” by Ian McEwen, our first book, scored only 5 out of 10! However, our most popular books were:
“My Dear, I Wanted to Tell You” by Louisa Young
“Crossing Place” by Ellie Griffiths
“The Miniaturist” by Jessie Burton
"Behind the Scenes at the Museum" by Kate Atkinson
"Exposure" by Helen Dunmore
"Sense of an Ending" by Julian Barnes
"All The Light You Cannot See" by Anthony Dorr
The Library has been very helpful, providing us with the number of books we need which I collect and return. They provide us with a long list of sets of books they can supply and once a year we go through the list and tick those books we think we might enjoy, inform the library and they e-mail me when they have the next set available.
We could just about squeeze one more member into the group so if you think you would like to join us please give me a ring on 01366 388436.
