Downham Market & District

Walking

INTRODUCTION

The Walking Group was formed in November 2009 and has been very well supported. The countryside and villages in and around Downham offer lots of interesting walks. Walking is healthy exercise and you will appreciate the flora, fauna, agriculture and history of our area at close quarters.
Walk leaders normally draw up a half yearly programme of walks and these will generally range from 3 to 5 miles in length. Each month( except some public holidays/a leader not being available) there will be one short walk (up to 3 to 3.5 miles) and one longer walk (up to 5 miles).
Walks normally take place on the first and third Mondays of the month starting at 10-00am sharp at the start point, but do check the programme. They are usually within a 15-mile radius of Downham and lift sharing is encouraged. Arrangements are fairly informal and group members just turn up for the walks they fancy. The walk leader will be there come rain or shine. Walkers should be reasonably fit and wear appropriate clothing/footwear but the pace of the walk will be sensible and no one will be left behind. Walkers may bring sociable/well-behaved dogs. New members are always welcome as are suggestions for additions to the walking programme or offers to lead walks

Walks around King's Lynn

Do you know about the guided walks around King's Lynn which are available all year? There are many different themes, e.g. Hansiatic King's Lynn, Maritime History, The Darker Side of Lynn and a John Betjeman walk. They last up to 2 hours for a small fee. Extra walks are arranged during the King's Lynn Festival (last 2 weeks of July). They will even arrange a walk to suit a specific interest and the King's Lynn U3A have made good use of them.
