Diss

Welcome to the Diss U3A Website

Diss u3a holds its monthly meetings at the United Reformed Church, Mere Street.

The u3a is a "self-help, self-managed Society" dedicated to lifelong learning for people no longer in full-time work. The U3A welcomes all people irrespective of their age, gender or ethnicity.

At Diss, we aim to provide opportunities for shared learning experiences in a wide range of specific Interest Groups, monthly talks and mnthly outings to sites of general interest. We pursue learning not for qualification, but for increased understanding and enjoyment.

The Diss u3a was formed in 2003 and we have celebrated our 20th Anniversary. Membership now is around 300. The enthusiasm of members is reflected in the fact that they travel from Attleborough, Long Stratton, Eye, Garboldisham and many more areas of Norfolk and Suffolk to attend monthly and group meetings.

There are currently 27 active "interest groups". There are other, dormant, groups that need a leader or contact point to resume their activity. Members are free to take an active part, not just by joining one or more groups, but also by initiating new groups.

The monthly meeting is held at the United Reformed Church in Mere Street in Diss, on the first Thursday of each month. Doors open at 9:45am and the meeting starts at 10.30am. We serve free refreshments until 10:15am.

Membership
New Members - The cost of full year membership (Jan - Dec) for 2023 is £15. Click here: 2024 Membership Form for a copy. We have a discount for members who join part-way through the year. Members of other u3as can also join for a reduced membership fee.

All members will receive periodic issues of our Newsletter by email (hard copy for those without email).

Diss u3a is able to accept Gift Aid from those members who are income-tax payers; we encourage such members to tick the box on the Application Form. There is no extra cost to members for doing this but we, as a u3a, benefit from a reimbursement from the Inland Revenue service. This allows us to keep our subscription rate at a reasonable level.

For the benefit of both existing and potential members, we have a Diss u3a handbook that is undergoing review. To view the current version of this document, please click on the link on the right-hand side of this page.
