Welcome to the Diss U3A Website
The University of the Third Age (U3A) is a "self-help, self-managed co-operative" dedicated to lifelong learning for people no longer in full-time work. The U3A welcomes all people irrespective of their age, gender and/or ethnicity.
At Diss, we aim to provide opportunities for shared learning experiences in a wide range of specific interest groups, monthly talks and outings to sites of general interest. We pursue learning not for qualification, but for increased understanding and enjoyment.
Diss U3A was formed in 2003 and membership now exceeds 330. The enthusiasm of members is reflected in the fact that they travel from Attleborough, Long Stratton, Eye, Garboldisham and many more areas of Norfolk and Suffolk to attend monthly and group meetings.
There are in excess of forty "interest groups" varying in size from six to forty members. A few groups have a waiting list but many have one or two vacancies. Members are encouraged to take an active part, not just by joining one or more groups, but also by initiating new groups.
The monthly meeting, for which there is a small charge (for tea or coffee and a biscuit), is held at the United Reformed Church in Mere Street on the first Thursday of each month and regularly attracts over 100 members, as well as a welcome number of visitors. Doors open at 9.45am and the meeting starts at 10.30am. During this time, members can socialise, check current notices, look at the interest groups and visits information tables and gain up-to-date information from the pre-meeting slide show. There is also an opportunity to use the "Book-Swap" - you bring a book and you take one away.
New Members - The cost of full year membership (Jan - Dec) for 2019 will be held at £12.00 (£22.00 per couple at the same address). A reduced fee will be applied for those joining during the second half of the year. Click on the right for a copy of the Membership Enrolment Form 2018.
All members will receive periodic issues of our own Newsletter electronically or in hard copy, as appropriate.
