INTEREST GROUPS

Being curious and learning everyday keeps us active.

Here, at Diss u3a, we pride ourselves in offering a varied range of interest groups and always offer support to anyone who wishes to start another group.

We provide groups where you can learn, be inspired, appreciate and create arts. You can be active, or competitive. Enjoy the great outdoors, or relax indoors.

For instance, we sing, paint and speak Italian. We discuss and we travel (in armchairs). There’s gardening and hand-bell ringing.

Our groups each have a leader who acts as the point of contact but this role is sometimes shared. In u3a groups, the leader is not meant to be the fount of all knowledge as all members participate in suggesting and organising group activities. All our groups are friendly, welcoming and offer a relaxed environment in which to learn, enjoy and socialise. It is a good way of meeting like-minded people and to make new friends.

Some groups have to be limited because the meetings are held in members' homes, but when that happens, you are always encouraged to go on a waiting list or start a second group.

Take a look at our list of current groups and if you see something you feel you may like, please contact the Group Leader. You are welcome to visit a group twice before committing to join that group. You must, however, be a member of the Diss u3a. If there is no group that matches your interests, you are invited to start a new group.

We have many ideas for new groups, but we need more group leaders. If you feel you’d like to help us by becoming a group leader please contact Duncan Livingstone (Groups Coordinator) 01379 890189. Remember, you don’t need to be an expert on the subject. We promote shared learning.
