Didcot & District

Welcome

Welcome to Didcot & District University of the Third Age,

We now have in excess of 280 members and continue to grow as word of our success spreads. We have approx. 35 Interest Groups up and running with more being added as people come up with new interests and hobbies they'd like to persue. Each month we have a speaker followed by tea/coffee & biscuits where all are encouraged to stay and chat, make new friends and see what there is on offer both within our U3A and the Thames Valley Network.

The University of the Third Age originated in France in 1972 and the first British U3A was established in 1982. Most U3As are charitable associations and all are run by volunteers each having its own constitution. The word University is used here in its original sense, as a group of people coming together to learn for the pleasure of learning. Do not be put off joining us by the word 'University' in the title. No academic qualifications are needed and none are awarded - we all simply enjoy many different hobbies and opportunities to learn something new.

U3A aims to encourage and enable people no longer in full time employment to help each other to share their knowledge, skills, interests and experiences.

Didcot & District U3A now in it's 6th year meets on the 3rd Tuesday of each month at 2:00 pm at Didcot Civic Hall. Please arrive 15 minutes before the start time to ensure you are all seated for the 2:00 pm start. Membership is £25 per year - April to March. Visitors are welcome to come to one meeting as a taster before joining. It should be noted that visitors are unable to join any interest groups prior to joining as insurance only applies to paid up members.

Our next meeting will be on Tuesday 19th June when we will be entertained by Steven Barry Bruce as he speaks of the Tales from the Auction Room. Why not come along and see what we are really about - we look forward to seeing you there. You may wish to think about joining us and making the most of our 2018/9 programme and proposed days out.
