TO ENSURE THAT YOU DO NOT MISS OUT ON WHAT'S HAPPENING MAKE SURE THAT YOU ALSO LOOK AT THE NEWS PAGE AND THE EVENTS AND OUTINGS PAGE
The News Page has details, news and reports of special interest groups together with descriptions of recent group activities.
The events page will give you details of the regular monthly meetings and notice of, talks and organised outings to places of interest and entertaiment.
If you are thinking of coming along to Dereham U3A to be a member you will be welcome at our monthly meetings, we have a "welcoming team" to make sure you feel at home from the start.
The University of the Third Age (U3A) is a "self-help, self-managed community co-operative" dedicated to lifelong learning for those of us in our Third Age.We define the Third Age as the period after the First Age of childhood dependences, and the Second Age of full- time employment and parenthood . It follows that there is no lower or upper limit on the age at which you can join U3A .
We aim to provide opportunities to get together for enjoyment and entertainment and to share learning experiences in a wide range of specific-interest groups.
We have a monthly meeting with a speaker, and refreshments, open to all members, and we organise outings to places of general interest. We pursue learning and new experiences; not for qualification, but for fun, using the personal experience of our members
We are one of the biggest U3A’s in Norfolk with more than 700 members and 44 groups. The U3A initiative in Britain has 1000 U3A’s and nearly 400,000 members. Each U3A is autonomous but follows the U3A ethos.
Members also enjoy a monthly newsletter free of charge, and regular updates between meetings by internet and this web-site.
The Memorial Hall in Dereham is the venue for our monthly meetings, on the Second Thursday of the month, and talks commence at 2pm. The doors open at 1.15pm to allow time for a chat and an opportunity to talk to Committee members and Group Convenors, read notices and sign up for outings. An admission fee of £1 is charged, this includes the talk and refreshments.
So do come and join us at our next meeting and see how we work. If you want to join a group and it's full or you want to start a completely different group - consider starting a new one!
