Folk Dancing
Group Organiser: | Richard Tidmarsh |
Venue: | The Daventry Brass Band Hall | in Daneholme Close (NN11 0PN) |
When: | Every Thursday | between 10:00am and midday. |
Our Folk Dance Group has now been running for a number of years. With around twenty members we are fortunate to be able to use the modern and spacious Brass Band Hall in Daneholme Close which is at the corner of Ashby Road and Daneholme Avenue, Daventry.
As we have to hire the hall there is a weekly charge for attendance at £2.50 per Person.
It is so pleasing to see how all the members now thoroughly enjoy the many different forms of dancing created over the centuries from elegant Playford (a la Jane Austen) to American contra and squares, including English Barn Dances and Scottish Reels. Our regular caller, Ken Judd, uses audio equipment and a wide variety of recorded music. We all start with little or no knowledge of the various dance moves and Ken patiently walks us through each dance before dancing to the music.
If a particular dance appeals to people, then requests for a repeat are always welcome.
We take a brief break for refreshments half way through each session, when it is possible to catch up with each other's news.
Not only is Folk Dancing a social activity, but also an excellent way of
keeping both body and mind healthy.
We have some regular male dancers, but the ladies greatly outnumber them and so we would appreciate some more male participants. So, gentlemen don’t be shy, come along and, with support of Ken, show the ladies that you can do it.
It would be good to have a few more chaps!!
- Come along and expose yourself to the risk of enjoyment.
