8th September sees the u3a geology group have its first meeting in the Flavel Centre for a long time. Meeting at 2.30pm in the studio at the top of the building, this meeting will look in a bit more detail at the asteroid impact 65 million years ago that is thought to have killed off the dinosaurs. Why did some species seemingly go extinct just before the impact? What else went extinct at the same time and why did birds and crocodiles survive? How do the Deccan Traps in India fit into the story, or the extraordinary fossils found in recent years in the Hells Creek Formation in the USA?
New members are welcome, just turn up and bring a neighbour or friend with you if you want. Cost is £2 p.p. to cover the room hire.
