Dagenham

Welcome

Hello! A very big thank you for your interest in Dagenham u3a

Registered Charity No. 1186740

The u3a, what it is and what it does.
Founded over 40 years ago, the UK u3a movement aims to encourage groups of people in their third age to come together and continue their enjoyment of learning in subjects of interest to them. The third age is defined by a time in your life where you have the opportunity to undertake learning for its own sake. There is no minimum age, but a focus on people who are no longer in full-time employment or raising a family.

The founders envisaged a collaborative approach with peers learning from each other. The u3a movement was to be self-funded, with members not working towards qualifications but learning purely for pleasure. From the start, the guiding principles were to promote lifelong learning through self-help interest groups covering a wide range of topics and activities as chosen by their members.

There are now 1057 local u3as across the United Kingdom with over 450,000 members.

History of Dagenham u3a.
Dagenham u3a first met in April 2018 and attracted visitors from several local areas. 45 Members joined at that inaugural meeting and our membership had grown substantially by the end of our first year. Our second meeting the following month included a visit from Councillor Abdul Azis, the Mayor of the London Borough of Barking & Dagenham together with his Lady Mayoress, and we also welcomed the first of our many varied Speakers. We were delighted when, towards the end of August, we received the notification that Dagenham u3a had been officially granted full membership of The Third Age Trust which gave members full access to to the National U3A website with all its ensuing benefits.

Dagenham u3a Today
We meet every third Monday of the month (except December) at Dagenham & Redbridge F.C., Victoria Road, Dagenham, RM10 7XL. Doors open at 1:00pm. There will usually be a guest speaker, followed by a tea/coffee break, allowing for time to socialise. Please bring a cup/mug for your drink. We then have any notices or announcements and draw our raffle.

Although known as Dagenham u3a, we include Barking and all surrounding districts. Membership of Dagenham u3a is open to anyone no longer in full-time gainful employment. There are no age limitations.

We welcome all new members with the intention of giving each and every one the opportunity to develop their interests, make new friends, enjoy life to the full and, most of all ..... Have Fun!
