Croydon Zoom Chair Yoga is now extending to Lancs, Norfolk and Brighton as the reputation spreads. Currently an average of 30 members join to stretch, become more flexible and have some fun. We will be involved with promoting the benefits of yoga as one of the partners delivering the National Wellbeing Programme during May 2021. Watch this space.
During lockdown there are 2 Zoom Chair Yoga sessions a week: on Mondays and Fridays from 10.30. to 11.40. Currently there is no charge for these sessions.
No previous experience is required. All you need is an upright (dining style) chair to get started, which is on a non-slip surface like a carpet or a yoga mat. Occasionally I ask members to have a strap or belt handy to assist with some poses.
Chair Yoga is not restricted to seated poses - we also use the chairs to facilitate balance and increase confidence for standing poses. Members access the poses at their own level and the rule is if it hurts stop! The programme varies each time with poses designed to increase flexibility and improve balance. We also focus on working the heart muscle, expanding the lung capacity and building up strength. These all have positive effects on mood and well-being. There is no competitive edge; we only challenge ourselves and we do have lots of fun.
