Love Gardening Group ventures out!
After a year of virtual meetings and valiantly trying to demonstrate gardening techniques using zoom (doesn’t work, let us assure you!), the Love Gardening group has decided to resume meeting up for outdoor activities. So, on our May and June meeting dates, (with our Croydon U3A risk assessment tightly clutched in our hands), we made a couple of outdoor forays to gardens at Wakehurst Place and Tadworth Gardens. It was so good to meet in person, catch up and actually speak to each other! And not hearing those dreaded words, “I think you have your mute button on dear”. It was wonderful to once again experience a garden rather than watching someone else enjoying it on you tube.
But what of July? I hear you ask!
Well, our July activity will be a first for the Love Gardening group. One of our members, Chris and his wife, are holding a coffee and cake open garden event on Saturday the 10th of July to raise funds for a South London Youth Centre they have been involved with for decades.
So our task is to meet the week before at his place to identify and label every plant in his garden! This will help those guests on the day who are more interested in plants than cake!
The Garden Open Day is not a U3A event, but well worth supporting as it helps raise money for a good cause. All are welcome. Come and see our labelling! And have that cake of course! (see Flyer for information – 25 yards from a 119 bus stop).
Then it’s all change in August, when one of our members has arranged for their allotment committee chair to give us a private tour. It’s all systems go now!
So if you love gardening, and think this all sounds interesting, we are still looking for a few more members. Do get in touch!
Come and join us to share your gardening enthusiasm.
