Singing for Pleasure
This group meets twice a month at St Matthews Church
2nd & 4th Wednesday mornings, 10.30am
The group has vacancies and welcomes new members.
SINGING – IT’S CHEAPER THAN THERAPY!
We sing arrangements of folk songs , old favourites and some lesser known ones, American Spirituals, popular melodies and show songs by people like Frank Sinatra and other entertainers. You don’t have to read music, just enjoy singing in a mixed group – we have enough members with a good understanding to help carry you along. We sing in three parts, the ladies singing the upper two lines of music and the gentlemen singing the lower one. The lower voices often carry the melody, while the others harmonise in two parts, sometimes three, which is very satisfying.
What we chiefly need now is more gentlemen singers, who would be very welcome.
We normally begin with breathing and vocal exercises, which are very beneficial for both body and mind. Then we sing through some of the songs we have in our repertoire – so that they are not forgotten – and then tackle something new. We hope there’s something for everyone – so just come along on Wednesday morning and discover the pleasure for yourself.
