Richness & Diversity in Poetry
Meeting on zoom
Starting in March
2nd & 4th Wednesdays
This is a new Croydon u3a Group starting in March. Over the next year or so, it hopes to see how poetry has developed from Anglo-Saxon times to works by modern favourites like Simon Armitage and current star (of President Biden’s inauguration), Amanda Gorman. There will be sessions on American and Commonwealth writers and poetry for children. The group will be able to determine how quickly it wishes to time-travel through the centuries and where it wants to linger. Much material and resources for each module will be posted on-line, so members will need to use computers and have Broadband. Apart from this, the only requirements are enthusiasm and the willingness to share opinions and to buy one book*. Initially the course will be held on Zoom, but we may meet in person when this is permitted and safe, and if members wish. Meetings may be on any weekday except Friday, twice per month. The day and time will depend on members’ preferences.
- The New Oxford Book of English Verse, available 2nd hand from £3.23. Members will also need access to Shakespeare’s works.
