We enjoyed a varied programme of events in 2018. In July, we had our annual trip to the RAF Museum at Hendon. This museum is just chock full of classic planes, from the first World War onwards. There is so much to see that anybody with only a faint interest in Aviation could not fail to be impressed. With the current emphasis on the 100 year anniversary of the RAF there is on course an Interpretive Centre. Who coined this ridiculous phrase?
Our August trip was to Bruntingthorpe in Leicestershire. This is one of only two days each year when the airfield is devoted to THRUST. Planes such as the Lighting, Comet, VC 10, Victor, etc etc, are allowed full-thrust runs down the runway, before pulling up (hopefully) before the end of the runway. The noise is incredible! So much better in torrential rain when the jets move large quantities of standing water into the sky.
In September, we went to Manston in Kent. Fantastic weather allowed us to have morning coffee in the sunshine, lunch, and afternoon tea, again in the sunshine. We also managed to visit both Museums, one of which (the RAF Museum) is really well worth the visit, with large numbers of old photographs, models etc.
