Astronomy
To explore all aspects of astronomy. No knowledge or experience of science or astronomy is required to join the group. The only requirement is an interest and curiosity about the nature of the night sky and a desire to find out more about it.
Meetings will be held monthly in members homes on the first Monday of each month at 19.30 to study current astronomical events and, where practicable, to carry out observations at suitable observing sites,
The group will have the opportunity to form links with local astronomical societies and other local U3A’s and the option to participate in practical events arranged by them. This could include visits to local observatories and public telescope observing events.
The group will arrange observing nights using their own equipment sometimes on their own property or in public sites such as the Ashdown Forest. Group members are not required to own any astronomical equipment but a set of household binoculars would be useful.
There will be opportunities to observe planets and deep sky objects and to learn about their nature using various types of observing equipment including telescopes and other forms of astronomical equipment. The group will encourage members to look at the night sky and share with other members of the group what they have found.
