Weekenders
The Weekenders Group was formed in 2015 for members who find themselves at a loose end at the weekends as most of the u3a groups meet during the week.
Some of our Group start the weekend on a Friday evening at the Village Hall, at 7.30pm, fortnightly, to play Bingo, but our regular weekend activity is meeting in the small downstairs hall (next to the Blue Cage) at the Village Hall, at 11am on a Saturday morning for an hour and a half, when we can make tea/coffee and have a chat. We also discuss any upcoming events and/or suggest new ones.
During the Winter, our aim is to find weekend activities we can enjoy inside, a visit to a theatre to see a show, or a film at a cinema, that a number of our members are interested in, and maybe a visit to a museum.
During the Summer months, we usually organise a picnic at Compass Gardens, which often includes playing games such as rounders or boules etc., or Hylands House. Again lunches out on a Sunday, sitting outside if possible, and a cream tea at a member’s house. There are also numerous fetes, fairs, classic car shows, food festivals, etc., which can be arranged between those members who are interested in going.
