To comply with the Governmental guidelines, our proposed monthly visits will be cancelled until further notice.
VE Day Information
Lesley Dearing forwarded the Imperial War Museum website address for circulation.
Should you decide to check this out, there's information about VE Day 1945, which you may find interesting.
Local History Links
During the lockdown members have suggested looking at the following sites to take a virtual view of various locations.
Follow British Museum for a virtual tour of the museum
Follow Eltham Palace for a view of the English Heritage Hmoe & Gardens
I have been thinking of a way that we would be able to keep in touch during these restrictions. As we visit places of historical interest, virtual meetings would be impossible.
Although some art galleries are showing paintings by various artists online, I haven't seen anything like this from the museums or places of historical interest. If anyone has, can you please let me know.
So, I was wondering if our members would like to share some interesting historical information about an area where they have lived, grown up in or around or visited in the UK. I'm sure that our members have lots of information that we'd all find interesting. Although some of 100+ members may not want to write an article, I'm sure they would like to read the ones that will hopefully be submitted.
Should you decide to adopt this suggestion, I could then circulate the article to our members, once I have received this from the author.
Please let me know if you would like to adopt this suggestion, as a way of keeping in touch during lockdown.
In May, we had planned to go to Eltham Palace. Both Lorraine and Wendy have been making behind the scenes enquiries on our behalf. The information gained will be held in abeyance until it is safe for us to visit this historic palace.
With the rapid spread of this virus, I have not made any enquiries for our proposed visit to Radio Caroline.
It's to be hoped that you and your families are all keeping well and managing to avoid this awful virus.
The Local History group meets on the third Tuesday of each month for visits to local museums and other venues.
Please be advised that I will now be continuing in the role of co-ordinator.
Until I'm able to go on the visits again, I'll only be doing the administration for our group.
During this period, the members who have organised the visits will be asked to lead these.
I would like to thank all the members of our group who have assisted in the organisation of the visits to varied and interesting venues that we have visited together since I started.
