Welcome to Crosby and District U3A
Hello to all our U3A friends.
Such a lot has happened and the world has changed so much since our last main meeting in March just before the Covid-19 lockdown started.
We hope you have all stayed well and have been able to take advantage of the lovely weather - tempting us all outside.
We hope too that you have been able to keep in touch, by 'phone maybe, with the friends you have made through the various groups of Crosby U3A.
Until we are all able to meet again whenever that may be, Good Health, stay safe and we will get in touch when we are able.
Committee members, Crosby U3A
U3A stands for the University of the Third Age, which is a self help organisation of people no longer in full-time employment, providing education, creative and leisure opportunities in a friendly environment. U3A membership is not related to a specific age but to a period in one's life (the third age) after the second age of full-time employment and parental responsibility. Anybody in their third age can join U3A, this also includes people who may still be working leading up to retirement. All you need is interest and enthusiasm.
Crosby U3A, founded in 1996, includes members from the surrounding area, and is an established group of around 160 members. If you are interested in joining our U3A, why not come along to one of our monthly meetings, or telephone the Membership Secretary if you would like to find out more first. We are always looking for new friends to join us and perhaps add to our group activities.
Our regular meetings are held on the second Monday of each month in St. Helen's Church Hall, Alexandra Road, Crosby L23 7TJ.There is no meeting in August and in January we have a New Year Lunch instead. Our AGM takes place at the July meeting. Members get together for a coffee and to hear what the various interest groups are doing. There is usually a guest speaker. The U3A approach to learning is - learning for pleasure.
Crosby U3A membership charges are £14.00 per year including tea, coffee and biscuits! Visitors are asked to pay a charge of £2.00 for attending a meeting which counts towards membership if they later join. Cheque payment is preferred to cash as this makes the Treasurer's task very much easier; payable to "Crosby U3A". Visitors can attend up to 3 meetings before deciding whether or not to join.
We have a weekly Coffee and Chat event at the Crossroads Centre (by St. Lukes Church in Crosby) every Tuesday at 10:45am, unless this clashes with Christmas. Just a friendly get together where we chat about pretty much anything (not just U3A stuff). Just make yourself known or ask one of the Crossroads staff to point us out. Copies of newsletter can normally be found on the notice board in Crossroads.
Our monthly newsletter and schedule covers the period from the meeting (2nd Monday of the month) until shortly after the next meeting. The printing has to be done the Friday before to allow time for folding etc. Copies can be downloaded from the link on this page. If you want items included you MUST let us know by the Thursday before the meeting. Use the response form or direct email to firstname.lastname@example.org. Event and other details can be added to website at short notice but relatively few of our members look at the website and some do not have internet access so you really need to tell us in time for the programme print run.
Fred Olsen Cruise Lines now offer Members of Crosby U3A and families 10% discount on any cruise booked using discount code U3ACRO10#. See link for dull details.
