Active Sefton Nordic Walking

Nordic Walking is a great way to lose weight and stay healthy, it strengthens your upper body and reduces stress on joints. With the correct technique Nordic Walking burns up to 40% more calories than normal walking and uses 90% (95% if you chatter on the way) of your bodies muscles.

Nordic Walking uses poles in order to add two major benefits to walking
1. The use of poles means the upper body muscles are used as well as the legs.
2. The poles help to propel the walker along - this means he/she works harder than usual yet the support given by the poles makes it feel easier!

Sefton Active Walks Nordic has signed up to the Nordic Walking UK Community Pathway, the technique training is led by a qualified Nordic Walking UK Instructor. All participants that complete the 4 hour training course will receive a Nordic Walking UK Competence Card. There is normally a charge for the course but if you go through Sefton Active Walks there is no charge.

Sefton Active Walks Nordic run free Learn to Nordic Walk technique courses periodically, please contact the team on 0151 934 2824 for further information.

To participate in the Nordic Walks participants should attend the Learn to Nordic technique Training Course. The walks last approximately 1 hour and provide the perfect opportunity to practice the sports specific technique.

The weekly Crosby Walk starts on Friday morning at 10:30 from the Mariners Road Leisure center meeting in the Cafe and you should phone beforehand; though you can normally just turn up. Training is minimal, 4 one hour weekly sessions though you can come along to see if you like it. Active Sefton will loan you the poles for your walk and make sure that Nordic walking is safe for you. The correct poles are around £50 a pair but you don't need to buy your own until you have decided that Nordic Walking is for you. Maghull U3A have already formed their own group through Active Sefton. It costs nothing to try it; it caters for all abilities and ages. Just Google "Nordic Walking" and/or "Nordic Walking Sefton" to find out more.
