Exercise 1 and 2

Penny Matthews leads classes based on Pilates, suitable for both men and women, which helps with concentration, breathing, co-ordination, balance and movement.

Classes last for 1 hour each week, on Wednesday, 2-3pm or Thursday, 11-12 and are still Covid aware. People are welcome to come to either or both sessions and can vary the day from week to week. Although it is good to come regularly, there is no requirement that you should attend every week. The exercises are done in bare feet (no trainers unless you have a foot problem) some people prefer to wear socks. No special clothing is required, just wear something loose and flexible. Classes involve exercise mats and bands but you can try the class first without buying anything, just bring along a thick towel to use instead of a mat.

Due to the age group it is usual for people not to be able to do all of the exercises, the aim is to do what you can with no pressure. We are a friendly bunch.

The cost of the class varies according to how many people attended, at the moment it is £4 a session. Refreshments are usually available at Planet Play next door if anyone would like to stay on afterwards for a chat.

Classes are held at The Studio, Westward Barbell Gym, which is next door to Planet Play in Westward Business Centre, Mill Street, Crediton EX17 1HB (entrance opposite Morrison's). There is parking at the gym, use the spaces marked Planet Play and Gym.

Bands can be purchased from sports shops, eg Sports Direct (next to Tesco) in Exeter High Street or online or Penny is happy to supply you with one.
