Longer Walks of 5 to 8 miles, 4th Thursday in the month.
On a beautiful sunny May morning 12 members of Walkers 3 set off on a pleasant five and a half mile stroll around St Leonard’s Forest Horsham. Braving tales of dragons, giant rabbits and races with the devil the group enjoyed a varied landscape of woodland, historic iron workings and views towards the South Downs. Sadly we didn’t see a herd of deer as the walk leaders had on their recce. This could due to the cheerful chatter of the walkers scaring off the wildlife!
The post walk lunch was on the terrace of the Wheatsheaf in Plummers Plain where the obligatory Ham, Egg and Chips was awarded 8 out of 10.
November 23rd 2017 was a crisp, breezy and sunny day and twenty one members of the Walkers Extra group undertook a seven mile walk along the Thames Path from London Bridge to Greenwich.
There were many points of interest along the way including the first tunnel under the Thames, a foot tunnel built by Isambard Kingdom Brunel, the site from where the Mayflower sailed with the Pilgrim Fathers, and many more. After lunch at ‘The Yacht’ pub in Greenwich the group travelled back to London Bridge by a Thames Clipper catamaran.
