The Philosophy and Discussion group meets every third Thursday in the month at 10 a.m. in the Back Room of the "King Billy" in Hallgate.

Earlier in the year we met to view and discuss BBC4 TV film the Joy of Logic which covered the history of logic from its roots in Ancient Greece to the modern computer and the code breaking exploits of Bletchley Park so crucial to the war effort in the 1940s.

At a recent meeting Jim Lyons, a member of the group, gave an excellent presentation on modern science and the philosophy behind it. Drawing on the experience of a working life in universities his talk was lively, interesting and controversial in equal measure.
