Links to u3a Resources

Our movement has many interesting and diverse sources of knowledge, this list is just an example. Please let the webmaster know if you have come across any other u3a websites worthy of mention.

  • u3a Home - The u3a movement was founded in 1982, and is a UK-wide movement of locally-run interest groups that provide a wide range of opportunities to come together to learn for fun. Members explore new ideas, skills and activities together. There are 1,057 u3as with over 450,000 members in total.
  • Interest Groups Online - Interest Groups Online (formerly Trust u3a) is an online learning service provided by the Third Age Trust and is run differently to local u3as. A group of IGO volunteers and TaT staff discuss and decide on all matters relating to IGO. Some matters require board approval, particularly those relating to financial decisions. As with local u3as, IGO is required to be self-financing, and the level of the subscription fee is set to ensure that this is the case. In all other respects, it works on the same principles as local u3as – all activities are done by members for members at no cost.
  • The Diversity and Inclusion Committee aims to support and advise u3as to ensure that all their members and prospective members can access the informal learning and the many other activities in their organisations, encouraging inclusion and diversity in everything we do. For more information visit the u3a diversity-and-inclusion website.
  • u3a Communities - This site is run by a group of volunteers who share an interest in the use of technology to enhance the U3A experience. We are currently focused on sharing activities via Zoom technology and seeing where that takes us. We work closely with World U3A who have pioneered the use of video technology through its regular International Forum and websites.
  • u3a Climate Change Network - This website aims to act as an information point for all U3A Interest Groups within the UK that are concerned with aspects of Climate Change, Sustainability, the Environment, Renewable Energy or Recycling.
  • u3a International - The first u3a in the world was established in Toulouse, France in 1973. The first u3a in the UK was formed in Cambridge in 1982. By the mid-1980’s, The Third Age Trust was actively involved with overseas u3as. Explore International u3a.
  • u3a Science Network - The Science Network exists to encourage science activities within the u3a. The Network holds an Annual Meeting each August.
  • u3a Research Database - The Research Database is a national repository of current and past research and shared learning projects undertaken by u3a members.
  • u3a Sources - Sources is the educational journal of the u3a movement with a history of articles and newsletter.
