Collingham & District

Welcome

Nationally the U3A has over 300,000 members belonging to 1000 independent U3As. Its philosophy is very much one of friendship through sharing knowledge and skills and being able to do so in an enjoyable environment. There is no formal teaching, there are no exams and no qualifications are required, other than a desire to take part and enjoy! If you would like to read more about the U3A visit the website by clicking on the following link THIRD AGE TRUST.

Background to Collingham & District U3A

We launched our U3A in July 2014 and immediately found great local interest taking the membership to 60 and creating 13 Interest Groups within a month. These covered a wide range of subjects from Art Appreciation to Local History to Walking and more are added as the membership grows. The membership has now increased significantly - see 'Notice Board' to the side and we have almost 30 interest groups so take a look at these on the Groups page.

Our U3A is located in a delightful rural area close to the River Trent and on the borders of Nottinghamshire and Lincolnshire. It comprises several villages including Collingham, Winthorpe, Swinderby, Besthorpe, North Scarle, South Scarle and a number of hamlets.

If you wish you can come along to two 'Taster' sessions before you become a member to see whether they are for you - (either once each to two different Interest Groups or to one General Meeting plus one Interest Group). Then on completing your application you will be able to join Groups and you can find out more about them by visiting the Groups page.

The Interest Groups tend to meet once or twice a month. In addition there is a General Meeting for everybody to attend at the Memorial Hall, Collingham, usually on the fourth Wednesday in the month at 2pm, where we catch up on U3A news. There is usually a Speaker followed by a good chat over tea and biscuits - an opportunity to meet other members and make new friends. See the Events page for these dates / details as well as other activities open to all members.

Our own Newsletter is now published in most months(see Newsletters page), the 'Third Age Matters' magazine is issued five times a year and 'Sources' three times a year. All included in your membership fee.

Annual Fees - The annual membership is £20, from 1st April until our year end of 31 March. However, for those new members joining in the period 1st November to 31st March, a reduced fee of £10 will apply until the annual renewal date.

Interest Group Fees - Each group meets in the home of a member or if more appropriate, a hired room/hall. A small contribution is collected by the Group Leader to cover the costs of any room hire, materials and refreshments. See individual groups for more information.
