Three Milers

We meet at 10:30 on the fourth Tuesday of each month at various locations, with the exception of December.

We walk at a fairly leisurely pace over routes that are typically three miles or less but may vary slightly. The routes are mostly in or around the vicinity of Colchester, but sometimes, in the summer months, we venture further afield. Some of the starting points for the walks are accessible by public transport, but as most of the current members prefer to use their own vehicles, a post code is included in the group email sent before each walk.

Not all group members participate in every walk, but sometimes people can offer lifts to others in the group.

There is usually an opportunity to have a drink or lunch at a convenient pub after the walk.

Everyone walks at their own risk.
Listen to the forecast before deciding whether to walk and take appropriate clothing and equipment, e.g. waterproof clothing, sturdy waterproof footwear and a walking stick if you need one. Remember that weather conditions can change and footpaths are usually muddier during or after wet weather than the typical paved surface.

All walkers are asked to carry their name and a contact number in case of emergency. If they have a mobile phone they are also asked to provide the co-ordinator with the number and to ensure that they have the co-ordinator's number.

The U3A leader will lead the walk and will probably carry a basic first aid kit but they may not have specific medical training. The walk leader(s) will show their group the way but it is up to the individual to be careful in following them and to know their own capabilities and limitations.

Colchester and Stanway U3A members can get more information by emailing the Group Co-ordinator clicking on the Bluebird logo on this page.
